Subject headings

To find items by subject in the library catalogue use Advanced search, select Browse subjects and type keywords. Use the tools listed in Reference works to check exact form of names of particular ethnic groups and for specific anthropologists.

To search for items relating to particular ethnic groups, use ethnology NOT ethnography
Ethnology [geographic area]
eg Ethnology Sumatra
eg Ethnology Kalahari Desert

[Name of particular group]
eg Minangkabua, San, Brahmans, etc

[Country, geographic region etc] - Social life and customs
eg Java social life and customs

For books about famous anthropologists, use:
Names of individual anthropologists
eg Malinowski

For books about anthropological research methods, try

• anthropology research
• anthropology methodology
• ethnology methodology
• anthropology fieldwork
• ethnology fieldwork

You can also find books by browsing the shelves at relevant call numbers although this is difficult in Anthropology because there are so many areas to browse.
