Supporting your research activities
These library services are exclusively for Monash University
staff, postgraduate and honours students
Tips for making the most of library resources and services
- There is a librarian to help you
Contact librarians have subject expertise in particular areas.
They can also assist you with literature reviews and managing
references. New academic staff and new postgraduate or honours
students should make an appointment to discuss research needs.
In one researcher's words " ... my librarian is a god-send
- he has saved me literally days of searching".
- You can borrow in person from most Victorian academic
libraries
Ask for a CAVAL card from the loans counter of your nearest Monash
University Library branch. You can search the catalogues of other
libraries through the Monash University Library catalogue. If
you live interstate you may wish to take advantage of the national
reciprocal borrowing scheme University
Library Australia. Researchers in scientific or technical
fields should investigate SESTICON.
- You don't have to be in a branch to be using the
library
Generally, quality online research resources are not free on
the Internet. The library spends millions of dollars to ensure
your access to these resources. You can access these resources
online, using your Authcate password, anytime, anywhere.
- Take notice of emails from the library
Emails are sent when loans are due, have been recalled or are
ready for pick-up. Students will automatically receive these
emails in their Monash email account. Staff should confirm
their email address when first visiting the library.
