Obtaining theses

Monash University theses

The advice below is only intended for Monash students and staff. Other libraries please contact Document delivery for a quote of costs, individuals please contact External Client Services.

You can purchase Monash University theses that are listed in the catalogue

• Microfiche copies cost $20 (Australian) plus GST
• Printed unbound copies cost 50 cents (Australian) per page plus GST.
• It takes 10 days for copies to become available
• The library may be able to temporarily transfer the microfiche copy of a Monash thesis for you to consult in your local campus library.

Theses from other universities

Ask library to borrow

• check Libraries Australia via the library catalogue to see if a lending copy is held by any Australian library
• if found in Libraries Australia, request a loan through Document Delivery
• only 15% of theses we try to borrow are available for loan

Ask library to purchase

• send an order via your contact librarian or supervisor.
• the library may purchase a copy of the thesis if it is available for sale.
• sometimes it is possible for the library to purchase a digital copy of a thesis.

Purchase it yourself

• Australian Digital Theses: online copies of over 13,000 Australian theses
• Networked digital library of dissertations and theses: online copies of overseas theses

Otherwise try:

• Australian theses: contact the library of the institution at which the thesis was submitted. Purchase cost will be approximately A$65
• British theses: British Library Theses Service
• American theses: if listed in Proquest dissertations and theses order via UMI Dissertation Express
• Other theses: write directly to the institution to which the thesis was submitted.
