Library users survey 2007

"Access to computers to support study/research is adequate"

What users said: What the Library is doing about it:
Importance: 6.05/7
Performance: 4.11/7
Gap: 1.94

“Even though there are more computers than before, it seems that they are still not enough”

“Recently the Library was changed into the (Library and) learning commons but this change actually lessened the available computers as two IT labs were closed and the total PC availability lessened.”

“More computers? There is a sign near the computers that says something about training rooms? "

  • We have improved our computer ratio
Over the last two years we have increased the number of computers in several of our branches to improve the ratio from 1:39 in 2005 to 1:36 in 2007. A total of 29 computers have been added over the last two years and we will continue to make modest increases to computer numbers over the next 12 months. We have also opened training rooms for student use. We acknowledge that we may not be able to meet the demand for computers in the library due to space constraints.
  • We are improving our computer facilities
The Library and Learning Commons at Berwick retained the same number of computers from the two IT laboratories and the library. Due to improvements in the layout and design of the library and learning commons and the improved accessibility to the computers, demand has increased. We have also provided study desks with power and wireless to meet the ever increasing demand for laptop usage.

“Where possible we endeavour to meet the demand for computer usage. Increased access to laptops and improved wireless will mean a different demand for our space in the future. The Library will continue to strive to improve our facilities.“
