Keep up with the latest at the library

Getting a list of new titles at the library has never been easier. The new resources acquired by the library for your faculty can be discovered regularly on a new specially-designed page that links direct to the catalogue, or you can arrange for a weekly list to be delivered straight to your computer as an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed.

Using the new titles page, you can choose

  • to search for items ordered for a particular faculty, or for electronic resources only,
  • to search for new items for up to four weeks
  • to list the results by location, call number, author or title
  • to search for a particular title.

Once you have a list of titles, generated as above or sent to you via RSS, you can click on any title and bring up its full catalogue record showing whether the book is available in any branch library yet. If not, you can place a hold request on it to ensure that you will be the first person (hopefully) to borrow it.

The advantage of organising a new resources list as an RSS feed is that a weekly list will arrive on your computer automatically without any effort on your part. This could be a simple way to keep on top of new resources in your faculty area. The library’s RSS program is a pilot to assess the demand for such a service. From the New titles page, you can click on the link provided to find out what RSS feeds are available from the library.

To receive an RSS feed from the library, you need to:

  • have a news reader (or aggregator). This is software which can be loaded on any computer The software looks like normal email software, and is designed to receive feeds (often marked with a spcial symbol) automatically and provide access to them
  • Click on the RSS symbol next to the new resources list you want and subscribe to the feed (once only) by copying and pasting the address of the feed into the appropriate place in your news reader.
You will then receive that new resources list every week automatically until you cancel your feed.
