Exhibition marks 10th anniversary of Asia collection

A selection of more than 120 items exemplifying the depth and diversity of the Asian language collections of Monash University Library will be on display from Thursday 8 September 2005 .

The exhibition, titled 'Asia - East and Southeast', showcases materials in three broad theme areas: political events and movements, popular and traditional culture, and women; and includes materials in a range of formats.

"We are thrilled to be able to celebrate 10 years of the Asian Studies Research Collection as a separate special collection for Monash researchers to draw on," said Senior Asian Studies Librarian, Dr Aline Scott-Maxwell.

"The collection is a rich repository for research and everyday study and testimony to Monash University's long history of scholarly and public engagement with Asia."

All Monash staff and students are invited to attend the exhibition opening, at 5:45pm , Thursday 8 September in the exhibition room on level 1 at the Sir Louis Matheson Library on the Clayton campus. Items of interest include Indonesian manuscripts on bark and palm leaf, prison confessions from Cambodia's Tuol Sleng Prison, martial arts story books from Java and a range of Japanese manga and other Asian comics.  

The exhibition will run from 8 September to 25 November 2005 .
