Wireless network extended in all libraries |
||
| Wireless network coverage will be expanded in all of the
library branches and is now available in Berwick Library and throughout the
entire Law Library.
Following a review by Information Technology Services and demand from library users wireless coverage will be extended to every part of every library by mid-2005. "Laptop users have been asking for wireless coverage in the branches on every campus and now, with the help of ITS, we are able to deliver," said the library’s director of information systems, Janette Burke. "Berwick Library was enabled for wireless access to the Monash network late last month and Law Library wireless coverage has been extended to cover the entire library." Wireless coverage at Gippsland, Pharmacy and Peninsula libraries will be extended to cover all areas by February 2005. The Sir Louis Matheson Library will also have its coverage extended to the whole building with the exception of the book collection areas. Hargrave-Andrew Library will have its coverage extended to every floor as a component of the current refurbishment (scheduled for completion by June 2005). "By the middle of next year every branch of the library will be wireless-enabled throughout," Ms Burke said. The extension of wireless coverage, funded by Information Technology Services, would ease demand for computer workstations in the library by making it easier for laptop users to access online resources like the catalogue and the internet, explained Ms Burke. "We have conducted surveys of laptop and notebook users at a number of branches, which indicated that library users will certainly make use of increased wireless access." The ITS wireless web page provides additional information on how to register, connection and wireless locations. 12 November 2004 current news : 2007 : 2006 : 2005 : 2004 : 2003 : 2002 : pre-2002 Need help?
