Transformation for Hargrave-Andrew Library |
||
| The Hargrave-Andrew Library on the Clayton campus will undergo a major refurbishment from September 2004 to July 2005. The key features of the refurbishment include twice as many computer workstations to access the growing electronic collection; a variety of seating and desks to accommodate different study styles; a modern, open-plan layout that will allow for better navigation and; the relocation of the entrance to near the Hargrave Café. Students and staff are invited to follow the progress of the refurbishment by viewing regular online project updates. "As the primary users of the Hargrave-Andrew Library, staff and students from the faculties of Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences will benefit from design features that not only support their learning and research, but also provide comfortable and modern surroundings," said Hargrave-Andrew Library manager, Robert Thomas. "The library will remain open throughout the refurbishment with as little inconvenience to library users and the precinct as we can manage during this period." As the original and oldest branch of the Monash University Library, the refurbishment of Hargrave-Andrew Library will be the first step in a larger project to upgrade all eight branches. University Librarian Cathrine Harboe-Ree explains, "Over the last forty years, university libraries have changed significantly and so has the way in which students and staff use them." "The current Monash University Library buildings vary in age and functionality and need to be reviewed to ensure that they support Monash's learning and research as effectively as possible." In an effort to address this, the Monash University Library has developed the Facilities Master Plan, a plan to inform upgrades to the branches of the library over the next twenty years within a set of guiding principles. Find out more about the Facilities Master Plan or the Hargrave-Andrew Library refurbishment online. Brochures about the refurbishment are available in the Hargrave-Andrew Library. 16 August 2004 current news : 2007 : 2006 : 2005 : 2004 : 2003 : 2002 : pre-2002 Need help?
