Longer hours for online chat help

A trial of extending service hours for the library’s online chat help is currently underway.

The online chat help service is now available until 9pm, Monday to Thursday, during semester.

The service offers real-time assistance from a librarian for staff and students needing quick answers about using the library's collections, resources and services.

“The service was operating from 10am to 5pm but reports from similar services overseas indicate that there is a real demand for online real-time help between 7 and 9pm as well,” said Director of Client Services, Humanities and Social Sciences, Christine Cooze.

Ms Cooze said extended hours would be in effect from 19 July to 24 September 2004.

“The trial will enable us to determine whether there is a demand for permanently extended evening hours at Monash.”

“We are particularly keen to provide a service to those who find it hard to get to library branches and access librarians in person, so hopefully part-time and off-campus students, who often access library resources from home in the evenings, will find the extended hours beneficial.”

Access the by selecting ‘help’ from the menu on the library website.
