Library and ITS to lead $3.66 million research projectA new $3.66 million project will see Monash and other Australian research become more accessible to the rest of the world through the development of an integrated online repository. The ARROW (Australian Research Repositories Online to the World) project is one of four projects funded at a total cost of $12 million by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training to develop new information infrastructure for Australian universities.

The project, lead by University Librarian, Cathrine Harboe-Ree, will draw on the skills of the Monash University Library and the Information Technology Services Division, as well as those of the consortium members. “The long term goal of ARROW is to promote Australian research using new technologies, which is an extension of the work Monash has already begun to integrate management of, and access to, our research information in electronic format,” said Ms Harboe-Ree. The primary task of the project will be to develop and test software that will support an integrated repository of research papers, theses, journal articles and other digital information. A key feature of the project will be the incorporation of Monash’s annual research publications directory. “During the three-year funding period we will develop a demonstrator model and test it in the consortium partner institutions.
