More online books, journals and databases now available

New Resources

Library users interested in psychology, engineering, science, communication, criminology, politics, international relations and sociology now have more online resources.

Recent acquisitions include:

PsycARTICLES includes 44 full text journals published by the American Psychological Association from 1988 to the present, with earlier years in production. Print copies of 39 of these psychology journals will continue to be available in 2003, but will be cancelled in 2004 to help fund this electronic resource.

The library has purchased a further five-years of backfiles from the 'Web of Science' covering 1987-1991. A previous acquisition of backfiles from 1992 - 1996 means Monash students and staff across all disciplines now have equivalent access to most other major Australian universities. The Web of Science includes citation indexes for science, social sciences and arts and humanities.

The knovel database provides a growing collection of about 450 full text e-book titles from the world's leading science and engineering publishers. Some titles included in the database are already held in print, however electronic access will enhance availability for library users, including overseas users. All titles are linked via the catalogue.

Seventy-eight Sage journals cover the four subject areas of communications studies, criminology, politics and international relations and sociology and includes the most up-to-date content and up to 20 years of backfiles. All titles are linked via the catalogue. Access is for all Monash staff and students based in Australia and overseas, on and off-campus.

"We are continuing to focus on acquiring resources that provide, where possible, the full text of an article rather than just a citation or summary so library users can access this information regardless of their location," said Information Resources Director, Jill Wilson.

All resources listed are available from the library's databases index.
