$3.5 million gets extra 5 years of research dataMonash students and staff can now access an extra five years of backfiles from the Institute for Scientific Information Web of Science database as part of a $3.5 million federal government deal. Under the deal Monash University Library is now able to offer access to The ISI Web of Science database from 1992 to 1996. "We already subscribed to the Web of Science database, but up to now we have only been able to provide access back to 1997, so this deal will be a boon to all Monash researchers" said Digital Resources Librarian, David Groenewegen. Twenty-seven other universities across Australia will also benefit from the deal. ISI Web of Science is the online version of Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and Arts & Humanities Citation Index. It allows users to search citation records from 8500 journals for current and historic information, and to track citations and references within these journals. Links to many full text journals held by Monash are also included. Access is available from the library's databases page. For more about the deal, view press release from Minister for Education, Science and Training, Dr Brendan Nelson.
