Caulfield Library increases opening hours to meet demand

The Caulfield Library will be open for an extra eight and a quarter hours a week in response to the needs of a rapidly growing student body, Caulfield Library Manager, Robet Hornett, announced today.

The library will be open later on Friday nights and weekends and will also keep more consistent opening hours throughout the academic year.

“The number of students coming through our doors increased by 150 000 in 2002, compared to the previous year – that represents a 30 per cent increase in library usage,” Mr Hornett said.

“In addition to this, the number of students on Caufield Campus, particularly post-graduate and part-time students, is set to increase dramatically in 2003.”

“These students need more access and more flexibility from the library, and so we are providing it.”

The new hours will be:

Monday to Thursday 8.30 am - 10.00 pm
Friday 8.30 am - 8.00 pm
Saturday 10 am - 5.00 pm
Sunday 10 am - 5.00 pm

Other library initiatives to service the growing student body at Caulfield include increasing staff and computer numbers and upgrading facilities such as seating and work areas.
