Through the looking glass: 3800 more books now online
Monash University students and staff can now access 3800 more electronic books via the library's catalogue, ranging from text books to classic fiction titles such as Lewis Carroll's Alice's adventures in wonderland and Through the looking glass. The growing range of books available online is a response to the need for more flexible access to resources, explained Monash University Library Director of Information Resources, Jill Wilson. "With so many students studying part time or off-campus, the library has made it a priority to increase its already large collection of electronic resources," Ms Wilson said. "The full text of these publications is available to any Monash student or staff member with a computer, at any time, from anywhere." Subject areas covered by the recently purchased e-books include nursing, literature, history, information technology, psychology, performing arts and pharmacy. Sample titles include American noir: underground writers and filmmakers of the postwar era, Java examples in a nutshell: a tutorial companion to java in a nutshell, The long war: the IRA and Sinn Fein and Robinson Crusoe. The Monash University Library, through membership of the Cooperative Action by Victorian Academic Libraries (CAVAL) purchasing consortium for electronic resources, acquired selected titles from a large database held by OCLC netLibrary, a leading provider of e-books to libraries around the world. To access e-books, search the Voyager catalogue at: library.monash.edu.au More than 130 000 electronic books, not yet linked from the catalogue, are available via online databases from the lib.monash.edu.au/databases/ 28 November 2002 current news : 2007 : 2006 : 2005 : 2004 : 2003 : 2002 : pre-2002 Need help?
