Microform Collection
Title: Book Prospectuses before 1801 in the Gough Collection. Bodleian
Library
Notes: Richard Gough was a collector of
books, papers, prints, coins and medals. An antiquary and topographer he was
obliged to assemble for himself the materials which he needed for his work
because libraries made no provision in this field. Gough's collection of
book prospectuses is unique because it relates to a single subject when it was
at the height of its popularity and for the period after about 1780, is
comprehensive. The collection can be accessed by means of either a printed catalogue or indexes on the last fiche of the set. It is indexed by, authors, editors, translators, illustrators and titles, names of members of the book trade or topography, reflecting the contents of the Gough Collection.
