Australian Sheet Music Archive

The Australian Sheet Music Archive consists of over 400 items of Australian music dating from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Using the archive: these items can be accessed through the library catalogue and are available for consultation in the Music and Multimedia Collection.

Australian Composer Archives

Monash University Library has received a number of donations from Australian composers in the past decade. These archives consist of manuscripts, published scores, sound recordings, scrapbooks, and other ephemera. The collection has archives of the following composers:

Using the archives: the Australian Composer Archives are available for consultation in the Rare Books Reading Room. Online finding aids are available for these collections.

Ethnomusicology Sound Archive

An Ethnomusicology Sound Archive of over 3000 vinyl recordings, cassettes and CDs is available for listening in the Music and Multimedia Collection.

The archive includes recordings of music from most countries throughout the world, with an emphasis on South-east Asia, India, and Indigenous Australia. It also includes jazz and some popular music.

Using the archive: these sound recordings are searchable on a custom designed database, by location, ethnic group, performer, composer, sound component, subject, title and tracks. This is available in the Music and Multimedia Collection. Users can listen to the recordings in the library.

Japanese Music Archive

The Japanese Music Archive contains sound recordings, music scores, books and videos relating to the classical (traditional), popular and contemporary music of Japan. 

The archive is currently being catalogued. Search Library Catalogue under “Japanese Music Archive”.  Items in the Library Catalogue are available for loan.  Other items are listed in the printed catalogue Japanese Music Archive: Catalogue (edited by Alison Tokita). These can be viewed in the Library. Ask at the Music and Multimedia Collection or Asian Studies Research Collection service points.
