Business periodicals on disc
The Suppliers of Business Periodicals Ondisc (B.P.O), The
system that allows users a one step capability of searching
retrieving and reproducing full text articles have announced a
new development. BPO links the ABI/INFORM database of indexing
and abstracts of 800 business and management journals, to a
full text database of nearly 400 of those journals. BPO is
located at Caulfield Campus library. For more details on its
use contact the Business librarian, on ext 73 2441.
A new arrangement has just been put into place that allows for
further reproductions of the output of BPO. This means that
provided we comply with the conditions set down by UMI that
they are able to inform the full text publishers of the
details of copies made, multiple copies may now be made for
distribution purposes. For example copies may be handed out to
support lecture notes or placed on Reserve for student
photocopying. The Multiple Copy Authorisation form is
available from Judy Hopley.
Monash Authors Collection
The library has long maintained an essentially archival
collection of books written or edited by Monash staff or
students. This material is retained as a significant record of
the intellectual life of the university and its staff. These
works are not normally available for loan but can be viewed in
the library and are included in various exhibitions from time
to time.
The library now wishes to extend this collection to include
works by staff from Caulfield and Frankston Campus. It has
been the practice for the library staff to write to all
publishing authors and editors asking for donated copies of
their works. The growing parsimony of publishers in providing
free copies to the authors is recognised by the library and in
cases where the author is not in position to donate, the
Library will buy copies. In most cases the Library will also
seek to acquire copies of books for its public collections.
Authors and editors are asked to send copies to :- Patricia
Miles, Gifts Officer, Technical Services Department, Main
Library.
