Southerly Busters: an exhibition of Australian Literature

This exhibition is a celebration of the completion and publication of the fourth and final volume of the massive Bibliography of Australian Literature. This publication and the associated Austlit database enable us to gain an overview of Australian literature in all its styles, and on all its levels. We can see at a glance the lifetime output of such one-time giants of the local scene as Vance Palmer, and also the vast outpourings of Australian pulp; a neglected genre, of fugitive publications in fields such as sci-fi, romance, horror, detective fiction and even westerns.

The exhibition highlights the wide holdings of the Monash University Library Rare Books Collection in Australian literature. On display you will find the classic works and those now forgotten.

Exhibition opening: Opening address given by Professor Peter Pierce, of the Monash Centre for Australian Studies
Curator: Richard Overell, Rare Books Librarian.
When: 25 September 2008 – 1 March 2009
Where: Level 1, ISB wing, Sir Louis Matheson Library, Clayton campus.

Catalogues are available from Rare Books Assistant, Lorraine David.
